Yes, I think exactly the same with Binnie. We need two keepers available for these games so with Bishop out need to bring someone in to cover McDonnell. Sure he'll only be around for as long as Bishop is out (seemingly not long).

Now you mention it Bush Womble I’d speculate the filling in to help out and keep fit thing could be Binnie’s situation. Would explain why didn’t get on at all.

I'd be very surprised if we're seriously considering signing JKG. Don't think he fits the type of forward(s) we need to add. I think more likely we were short of forwards for today. With Stevens and Hedges injured, Foyo gone and new signings yet to arrive, it meant we were basically down to 3 forwards (Browne, Sasu, Hackford). And as we play 2 up front and don't want to give players 90 minutes at this stage of pre-season, we needed an extra body. JKG probably happy to play to keep fitness up × helps put him in the shop window for other clubs.

Someone on X suggested that it was Ethan Binnie, recently released from Norwich.

The trialist keeper age is really difficult to place. He looks like he’s possibly a premier or championship level product who’s been released. Looks decent. I’m guessing they’re taking time to get him involved and assess him and give him an easier start than Norwich or Charlton.

Re new players, whilst I don't want to sound like cassandra, I don't think you can really decouple the playing budget from recent news about the bond redemption shortfall.

Strange thing though is that with Bishop injured, why have had a triallst keeper in for two games now and he's not played a single minute.

If JKG does end up with us this season it will be because CC and JJ have determined that he’s the right type of person, that they can work with him and that he’ll fit in with the squad culture*. I have faith in CC’s decisions in this matter - he may not get every one right in terms of their ability eg Kelly and Orsi but both of them worked their socks off every chance they got.

I think by mid August we will have a few players in. I also think the youngsters who’ve played the PSFs will end up on loan.
