My worst fear is we undo all the hard work we have done by burying our heads in the sand. We have seen so many clubs go on a mad run of relegations and end up in non-league losing key revenue streams. We have a lovely ground and its our, but it needs to be full and also sweat everything out of it. We also need to maintain it and that concerns me when we are chucking everything we can into the playing budget, yet a ground like ours need to be kept maintained and usable. We are not a fan movement no matter how many fans of other clubs say they admire us and love our model - If they love it so much, why do they not have the model at there club. We have £3m to pay in 2027 and at the moment there are no major sellable assets in the senior squad and we have to hope that our regular monies coming in for our academy starts continues in the background. We need key strategies now and to be blunt, the club keep asking for donations etc is non-league stuff and not for a club in League 1 or 2 imo

Yes Alan- I remember my first thought when Robbo was made manager was 'Damn. Now we'll lose him'.

IIRC Michael Hamilton was the Head of Academy
Aideen, I agree with that. I'm not alone in that at the time of his appointment to manager we all knew that a good man would eventually will end up going. His going and the lack of new talent coming through isn't necessarily down to failings of those who replaced him. The games changed too and that problem is due to the likes of Chelsea having a big say on where youth go to. When was the last GK to get a regular run out for the 1st team?

Robbos skill was getting yoofs to see that there's a better way, where you'll get a squad place and then a team place if you work hard and step up. Then they're free to join a higher club if they succeed.
Not a bad call, Aideen. It struck me last season how few academy products were regular in the first team.

I think that (1) if we sell out control we might get an owner who would fund our losses in the hope of glory or profit for themselves, but there is a risk we will get a bad owner who will exploit or mismanage the club (2) if we continue as fan-owned we might be able to raise enough from donations every year to plug our losses and keep us afloat as a league club but there is a risk (near certainty in my view, but that’s just an opinion) that the fans won’t be able to raise £2M in donations every single year and we will eventually fall into administration and/or out of the league. It’s all a balance of risks, as with everything in life.

All the players we sold or got money for were Robbos. I think that’s right anyway. Doesn’t seem to be any more in the pipeline. I say ask him back to run the academy.

Where are people getting news of Seddon signing for us? Just looked on the OS and there is the begging bowl article and Smith signing yesterday but nothing about Seddon.

No-one is being forced to become a club owner. Incorrect. All season ticket holders are now club owners whether they want to be or not. I chose for umpteen years to be an owner through Dons Trust membership because I cared. Now those who don't give a monkeys have voting rights without understanding what is being discussed.

What dream is that? The dream that we a find a nice rich owner who will pay for all our footballing entertainment and put in more money into the club than all the other rich owners around us in the league and never sell to one who will fuck us over. I agree with what Silk just said about our likely future. To paraphrase Thatcher the problem with running a football club is you always end up wanting to spend more of other peoples money.

Bury FC went from fan owned in 2013 to bankrupted in 2019.
4 years with massive crowds at NPL, and this year we have no big player sale to bale out the fans owned fanatics dream..

The pertinent point about Wrexham, Silk, is ever more third and fourth divisions clubs are becoming billionaires' baubles. While we wank over our moral superiority - as we beg our own fans to pay the bills - L2 clubs are spaffing £800k on strikers.

I see Lyon (Olympique Lyonnais) have been relegated (on appeal) from Ligue 1 because of the poor state of their finances and debts of £422m.

Eagle Football Group.
You would be impressed with the stadium a lot better than Kingsmeadow or the old Plough lane.

We are owners in name only, not in any meaningful or decisive way - we’d be just as much owners by being Trust members if big money came in, and we’d have exactly the same amount of control and influence (as in next to none…) as we currently have - so on that basis, we may as well sell up, preferably to someone who cares and who won’t completely fuck us over or send us down the shitter. Can’t be that hard, surely… 🤷🏻‍♂️

KD - I no longer give a fuck about whether we are fan-owned or not. Never been to Plough Lane, have no intention to and not even a DT member. Just want people to go into anything with their eyes open. The people who believe we will be the next Wrexham are just as deluded as those stating we will become a Championship club in the near future if at all by staying fan owned. The most likely outcome of a sale is that we may have a brief upturn followed by a return to what we are now. The evidence of the 48 L1 and L2 clubs cannot be ignored. Only a major injection of cash and I am talking one with eight zeroes behind it.

Two things. Firstly, Dons Trust members own a share in the Dons Trust, not AFC Wimbledon. Second, owners can sell....
