If I have to don a conspiratorial hat, it's that the recruitment of Marc Jones as 'Branding and Digital Transformation Lead' of the PLC a couple of months ago suggests that the digital transformation part of the plan was well in action before the latest consultation - and is probably the reason why the DTB seems to have stuck their head in the sand on the issue.

Why they don't just say 'ok fine, this year it will be opt-in and we will review' is beyond me, surely that would resolve everyone's concerns and the database work could happen anyway.

Save - 54% ain't enough.

Extending the franchise might get it over the line
My sense of the tactic to get 50%+1 on the table is 'death by a thousand cuts', by bringing it up every quarter they are slowly winning over with the idea that it is inevitable. Whereas the opt-out DT membership is unrelated and probably risky if you are trying to achieve 50%+1. You have to believe that the 'members by small print only' are likely to vote, despite not previously showing an interest, and more likely to vote for 50%+1.

Let us not forget that the Rye Report that 54% of members who responded to the consultation already support the principle of going below 75%+1. This particular issue is being won already.
Wot Sav said.

As far as I can see the 'extending the franchise' is simply a move to provide funding for pet projects and an unspecific sense that it's the 'right thing to do'. There doesn't seem to be any meaningful persuasion attempt to make it popular, and the Board are just burning goodwill which is coming back to bite them on just about everything they are currently trying to do. If they are trying to achieve what you believe, they seem to be cocking it up.

In my mind it's more Monty Python than House of Cards.
Forcing the issue not only includes putting 50%+1 on the table where DT member support probably wasn't there, but also extending the franchise (ooh-er, missus) to ST holders.

I have to say I applaud Little's leadership on this
The usual suspects on Proboards have a sort of PTSD. Forever stuck in 2002, forever battling Milton Keynes, Koppel and 'the Nogs'. These people will hold us back, so Little & co. have forced the issue.

And, as I did try to tell Michele in person on Sat, attempting manoeuvres that look shifty like the whole opt-out ST thing is a distraction at a time when they actually need members' trust and engagement on more serious matters (50.1). I don't actually think they get how much of an own goal that was/is.

"But why don't the people who we've made think we're constantly trying to put one over on them trust us?"
I think the whole 50.1 thing is more nuanced than KD does. I think there are lots of people (inc me) who, while temperamentally not inclined to sell down, recognise that they do in fact live in reality and this likely needs to happen. I think most want to ensure the correct protections are in place and that selling out entirely doesn't then become a fait accompli. What they don't appreciate is the board pre-empting and trying to circumvent member scrutiny. Whether they are actually trying to do this or are just horrifically bad at comms, opinions may differ on. Personally I think there is at least a degree of arrogance and contempt for members (perhaps the latter being something the DTB and KD are aligned on? ;-) ).

Clearly there are some die-hard "never sell down" people, but not sure there are that many. People can read numbers.
Without the new equity that would come from 50+1, it's difficult to see how we can meet our debt repayment obligations in 2027, just three years away. These are likely to be larger than the est £1.75m next year that relied, largely, on large transfer fee income from four player sales

KD - I think your macro point about the DTB vs the stuck in the muds is correct, the problem seems to be the DTB is bungling the whole thing through poor communications (surprise surprise!), bundling with other controversial issues and phoney consultations.

If the people who have oft cowered behind “the FSA agree” get royally shafted by the same tone then I’m all for it. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. MIchelle’s already tainted with facing the first VONC in Wimbledon history of all time forever.

Some things can wait.
Let’s be clear on this. The club is keen on the idea of selling equity (some, not all) to make progress. DT members (some, not all) are wetting the bed basically out of fear of Charles Koppel emerging from his lair. Little & co. are trying to swerve around the urine.

When Michelle and the other DTB no marks hide behind “taking advice from the FSA” it means “asking our mates if we can get away with…”

Not the worst night, but not the best. Could have done with Harrogate losing and Walsall and Donny drawing. Crawley losing definitely keeps it interesting.
