Yes and I agree with some of your suggestions. I would love you to have a way to discover how many people (a) could and (b) would donate 5K per year to the club. You reckon both are in the thousands. I'd put (a) at somwhere around 300 and (b) at somewhere below 100. Then there is what they would want for their donation, I'd want good governance before I donated anything. I guess we'll never know who is right.

This nonsense reminds me of that big push on 25-year season tickets to tap into the sort of fan ‘John Galt’ froths about. We aimed to raise £4 million by selling 500. In the end we sold about 20.

In the end, it’s just a hobby. Entertainment. There are far more important things on which to spend/invest
ML - I am absolutely in agreement with you that the current model is wrong and we need significant investment to grow. I just believe that the best way to do this is to enable any fans that wish to - to do so. More fan ownership...not less.

Dons Outlook at 13:29 has the point spot on. Do we have a ball-park cost for the South stand? I will also add do we have a ball-park cost to fit out the 3rd floor? Do we have a ball-park cost to fit undersoil heating?

OI - I don't disagree at all. All in favour of eliminating losses, sweating assets, creating new revenue streams and expenditure efficiencies. I have previously put forward a number of constructive/realistic ways to achieve that. But there are many people who seem to believe that all football clubs are forever destined to lose £2m+ per annum. My point was that even if that was correct - then surely the totality of our fan base must have much greater ability to lose this than just one individual.

JG: you are talking to the wrong man on this issue. I have been for at least ten years saying we should evolve, sell in order to push the club forward. Don’t get me wrong, I think the fans model did an excellent job starting up the club and working its way through non league but has reached a ceiling. Fans cannot pay the wages require, extend plough Lane as is needed. I know I’m in a minority although I believe more and more are now realising the need for outside investment

Mark.L - would you at least concede that before we sell to at best a Ryan Reynolds or at worse a Russell King that we should offer our fans the opportunity to truly own the club through fan investment. Personally I'd rather have 2000 fans "investing" an average of £5K-£10K each than on person owning 100%.

Doing some maths, £12 billion wealth amongst 55,000 people is £281K per person, we'll say just half are under 25 with no significant assets or disposable income so the remainder need £560K each. Of that, for London residents, most of it would be tied up in property and thus totally unavailable for investing in a hobby. Anyway disposable income by defintion is based on income not wealth so wealth is not relevant to how we can raise money. Yes, we should take on board your point that ownership involves funding and encourage all forms of funding but it isn't going to fix a big hole, so if we want to remain fan owned the route has to be eliminating losses and sweating the assets harder.

Does the 'average Londoner" include only those in employment or every inhabitant? It seems a meaningless measure to me. I'd reckon there are at best a couple of thousand of the 28K and probably under a thousand of regular attendees who have significant spare income and a lot of them may be paying between £500 and £1000 on season tickets to follow their hobby, they may of course have multiple hobbies too. Ideas are great but to me your figures never sound realistic.

Quite a few of us are happy not to be club owners. Looking around wembley yesterday and the amount of youngsters can't see a lot of them in the future worrying about being club owners.

Runs and hides but THAT is the only logical thing if you want success
Oi - I guess that depends on how we define disposable income. However the average Londoner apparently spends about 4.5% of their net income on their hobby/sport/leisure pastime - whether it be golf, angling, triathlon or stamp collecting. I'd already made allowance for children etc within my "back of a fag packet" figure of £12bn combined wealth - but how much of that is disposable or accessible I have no idea. But even 0.1% of this combined wealth represents £12m. If you really believe that it is not possible to monetarise our fan based "owners" (which I'm not suggesting you personally do) then we either limit our ambition or we get a "Sugar Daddy".

So how many of the 28K do you think have significant disposable income JG? I'm marginally more optimistic than CW's 38 but would put it in the very low thousands at best. Then you have to winnow out people like me who might put some money in if the club was well run, which in my opinion it definitely isn't.

Whilst I hope the new faces since the turn of the year are getting to grips with our losses, I'm still extremely wary of governance when the big boss position is apparently held by the only person capable of doing it, which also happens to be a role that person defined.

get on with the review ... and get a CEO on the plc board
We definitely shouldn't be limiting our ambition and scale of thinking to those with the least ability or inclination to act as owners. But if we want to progress we need to fund it. Some fans are clearly hoping that someone comes along who is relatively wealthy and happy to lose £2m-£3m per annum. My point is that we as fans could easily fund £2m-£3m on our passion/hobby. It's a drop in an ocean. I am definitely happy to contribute to our future - so I believe are thousands of other fans. But clearly not all.
