As ever with this sort of thing, ultimately the only people who will suffer are the supporters as players, managers and owners come and go. The supporters of Hull, Middlesbrough and Southampton are all being messed about by this. Buying matchday and train tickets, trying to get refunds (some train tickets may not have that option), not being able to plan, etc. Could a Southampton supporter with a ticket still just turn up on the day? Why not? I doubt they would want to but they have a ticket, especially if they are a neutral who got a ticket in that end. Middlesbrough supporters will have to pay extortionate train ticket prices because of the short notice.

The EFL will want a final played, whoever is in it because of all the revenue and profit it generates, so giving Hull a bye to the Premier League will not happen.

With apologies to the Proclaimers
Do managers and players actually make material changes to their team selections and tactics based on spying on a training session of the opposition? It's beyond stupid to do it. They might spot somebody getting injured but that applies to a game and they could recover. If Southampton are truly sorry they should sack their management team, who instigated this. If this goes right to the top, i.e. the owner sanctioned it, then that needs to be made public and not hang an intern out to dry as at some point his or her identity will become known.

I can see a scenario now of a club (Club A) sending an unconnected person to spy on the opposition (Club B) of a rival (Club C), pretending to work for that club (Club C), to get them into trouble. They (Club C) may ultimately be found innocent but the time wasted to prove it and reputation damage would be costly. All very pathetic.
OI - is it Wrexham (see what I did there…)?

Weirdly, AI (don’t trust it…) reckons she was in Bathgate Road from the early 1980s until she moved into a care home - my parents moved from the next road in 1982, so I guess that’s possible, although I thought it was earlier as we used to see her pottering in her front garden (not a euphemism!!) when walking past…

There is only one team in the playoffs who hasn't lost or cheated. Promote them!

Before that she lived in Bathgate Road, on the corner of Somerset Road (like I say, 1960s to early 1969s).

Incredibly many people who should know better are claiming that the Saints punishment should be less because they did not win any of the three games they spied on. If a 100m runner who hadn't won any races failed a drugs test - should their punishment be any less.

Offence is intent - not benefit! Likely outcome of appeal is the 4 point deduction will be suspended for a couple of years - but removal from play-offs will stand.
I feel exactly the same Hash. Must be more common than just the two incidents where they got caught.

Partly why I have more respect now (unless the reverse the decision today) for the EFL because it might make other clubs think twice about whether to do it in future.

Still remember june Whitfield up in the seats late 80s waving to thee wimbledon fans as they sang to her ,"get your tits out for the lads" we could have fun in the 80s:-)
I am sure this kind of thing happens more often than we think. Southampton were just incompetent about it.

It will be interesting to see what the appeal board come up with. Personally I think Hull should be promoted and the EFL bigwigs should move their self-congratulatory shindig to the League 1 playoff final.

Just hope that someone is making sure the kid is OK. Ultimately it wasn't his decision and would have been lead by the senior football staff. He was an (unpaid??) intern and probably just wanted to get on in the game. Yes, there's an argument for morals and he could have just said no, but the pressure must have been quite hard.
