JaW - if we're going to go to stats, then Barnsley were on target for three of those 16 shots, while we also had the same amount of shots. Also, Lincoln had two shots total when they came here...

Yes, you want to keep the opposition attempts on target, and yes we could have lost 3-0 to Barnsley. But the Tykes fans were saying how organised we were and some even said we were the better side. MOTWYW.
BTW if you want a laugh then watch the QPR Vlog at Coventry on YT. They are not happy. QPR took a lot there as well.

We can moan about shots conceded in a 2-0 win but they saw their team get slaughtered and got bantered by the Coventry fans. There really is no comeback when you are 5-0 down at HT is there?
Just seen the ten minute highlights. Good game for the neutral. 16 shots a piece. The only bad luck Barnsley had was the shot that came off the post. The McGoldrick save was good goalkeeping and cross across the box went behind their attacker because of Bishop's hand on the ball. The rest was our defence and keeper doing their jobs.

We conceding 16 shots at home yesterday, on another day we’re on the end of a defeat. Everyone needs to calm down.

Hash - indeed (re the decent start) - one poster said (on fixture release) “I am having a breakdown just looking at the fixture list and fear our first win may not be until the home game against Burton at the end of October”, which has thankfully turned out to be a worry that’s been calmed. I’m sure we will have a bad run at some point, but we’ve got some early points, and we look quite hard to break down - that’ll do for now ☺️

Good article Rob and the musings on owning the ground and club. We need to move from "fan ownership is sacred so how do we build on that?" to "fan ownership is great but can we really make it work to our benefit?". And if the answer is no then look at alternatives.

Hash - perhaps *culturally* we should be playing the likes of Reading, Cardiff, Barnsley etc each season.

I can't see why we automatically have to go back to L2.
Also, apologies for flooding the guestbook this morning but playing Reading, Cardiff, Barnsley...this is all very 'Wimbledon FC' isn't.

We're back. Let's stay here now please.
Six million dollar man, your post yesterday about McGoldrick's chance. To be clear he didn't 'miss an open goal'. It was a genuinely world class save by Nathan Bishop.

I don't think even the most optimistic expected 3 wins out of 5 at the start of the season. And yesterday I had forgotten / wasn't sure if Hackford was a loan or if he was ours. Turns out not only is he ours we have him on a 2 year contract with an option for a third. So hopefully he is the next AAH.

The last few weeks have indicated to me that there really is a whole let more entertainment when you play further up the pyramid. Further up than League Two anyway. I really hope we don't squander it.

nicander - no need to apologise! I see what you're saying. Sorry I'm just wary of getting ahead of ourselves - walking out yesterday I overheard someone mention the word 'automatics'! - and trying to guard against the meltdown that will inevitably come when we hit a rough spell.

I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday. I wouldn't say we couldn't improve it, though. There were some silly mistakes we could cut out.

As others have said, an excellent start to the season. Also, the game was so much more entertaining than when we were last in L1 - none of the pointless passing around at the back that we had under that management. Recruitment seems so much better too, with all of the new players seeming decent and none of the lightweight loanees from PL sides that we were burdened with in that season. I must admit that I had thought that we were certainties for relegation and I hope very much that this start continues and I am proved totally wrong in my pessimism. Whatever our financial issues, we seem to have built a really good management and recruiting infrastructure and I just hope that we can hang onto Jackson and Cope (and Bayes, who must be one of the best goalkeeping coaches around).

Nick - sorry, wasn't suggesting it's not possible for any team to improve. More that I don't know if these players specifically have a gear beyond yesterday, given they all played excellently by their own standards. It was meant to be a compliment!

So in answer to the question - to improve, we need to better protect the space behind the wing-backs, especially on Asiimwe's side, and the midfield has to be far more aggressive and track runners better. Our set-pieces also need work.

nicander - It was a great game and an excellent performance, but helped that Barnsley were so open. It did mean they caused us more problems, by a huge margin, than any other team so far this season. The got in behind so many times and quite how they didn't score is incredible.

I was thinking about how we could improve on yesterday and I'm not really sure we could. Everyone played well. That is probably close to our top level of performance with the team we have. Great stuff. Like others, concerned about keeping Jackson and Cope for the season and beyond.

I thought we should have got rid after Jackson's first season. Idiot.
What a superb start to the season. If you pick say 47 points as the safety target, then we are already 19% of the way there and it’s still August with only 11% of the season completed. In great shape.

Well this is a lovely surprise. I like to come to my local coffee shop on Sunday morning & have a leisurely scroll through the wup to catch up on everyone’s thoughts & reactions to the game, was getting worried that was a thing of the past so happy to see the page loaded this morning I don’t post too often these days but regularly read back so it’s good to see you all back. Absolutely loved watching that performance last night & cannot praise JJ & his staff enough for what they are building but am slightly concerned that we need to get him tied down to another contract, I’m not naive enough to think that if a bigger/higher up the ladder club comes calling that he’ll stay but if & when it happens let’s make them pay to get him. I really cannot believe just how well we’ve started the season when if we’re being honest we were all expecting a long hard slog with a few thrashing’s thrown in so to see just how well we’re competing its just fantastic, there’s a long hard season ahead I know but I’m over in 3 weeks time & where I was thinking I’ll probably be coming to see us getting our arses handed to us on a plate I’m now really excited to see this team in the flesh. COYD & good to have you back WUP 💙💛
