Message for Historical Don - I attended a big meeting at the BHA Amex yesterday. Part of the day was a Q&A with some Seagull 'legends'. I asked if they or anyone knew the whereabout s of Eric Young but the all looked blank.

It was something like that RK yes. And there was a similar twist of fate on the final day of the league I seem to remember in that something caused Plymouth to not get automatic and ended up in the final against us.

Can’t remember the details.
If Stanley had got the draw, wouldn't they have earned an automatic place?

Not just the countryside, RK. The other day there was a passenger in a car, which was being parked, that threw stuff out of the window. The car was outside a Tesco Express where there was a bin literally a few feet away. I couldn't believe my eyes. I think she was more interested in stuffing her face and setting a bad example to the kids sat in the back than caring about littering. This was in Bookham, which isn't an area known for chavs and pikeys. One thing I do notice on walks are bags of (presumably) dog shit hung up. What do people who do this think is going to happen? Some dog shit fairy is going to collect them later and put them in the bin they should have? Ditto dog ends thrown on the ground.

I carry my own litter miles until I come across a bin. If I can carry it when it is full I can carry it when it's empty. It's not that big a hardship.
Talking of Wombles (litter pickers), I did a hike last week that included a two km section on a busy road. I couldn't believe the amount of litter that is thrown from car windows in our beautiful countryside

The best thing about refereeing is being able to apply the rules "in the spirit of the game" - that gives you some leeway to do what is right not what is the written rules. I think in the Accy instance that it was incredibly harsh to have blown the whistle while a shot was travelling towards the goal. I'd have been livid if that had happened to us and I was very happy that it happened in our favour. It's all part of the game - every match has its own personality and refs should be able to use their discretion to steer a game accordingly.

I don't remember there being anything controversial in the build up e.g. Accy time wasting, so in that circumstance if I'd been reffing I wouldn't have blown up until the ball was dead/neutral. Not gonna argue with the OI approach though that you blow at the allotted time regardless of situation.
Didn't it also happen in the World Cup once? Clive Thomas again?

Or has my memory become Trigger-like?
Clive Thomas did the same to us in a match at Torquay - so what goes around, comes around.

Think that ref was probably a Womble tbh. They are rare but we do come across them every now and then.

We argue over that incident. I reckon with the laws as they are you blow when time is up, not one second before or one after but most disagree with me. I'd support a change that you play until there is a stoppage - out of play, foul or even goal.

Hash - rings a bell. Do you recall which Accy match - there have been a few at KM?

I remember their manager was somewhat displeased!
It was Accy, they weren't happy about it and we ended up knocking them out of the playoffs later that season.

Although it seems anything I remember should be thoroughly fact checked from now on.
DO i think that was Accy and he blew the whistle with the ball literally in the air on its way to the back of the net

Which was the match at KM where the ref blew for HT just before ball crossed line for what would have been a goal to our oppo?

running before they can walk, we know how that ends...
REPD, you say it was Midsons penalty that kept us up, I would say it was an Isle of Wight Ref "doing the right thing..." that did it.

His old man followed orders and let the wombles score five against his team ;-)
It's so weird, Meadow - if anyone had asked me to recant the history of AFCW I'd have definitely had that last-day survival against Fleetwood as our first season back in the league - would have even included the actual opener 2-3 defeat by Bristol Rovers from 2011/2012 but then my brain seems to have combined that with the ending of the 2012/2013 season as you say.

The fans want Maynard back and blame the board for his departure so probably would have booed Klopp if he had taken over.

You never what’s going on behind the scenes at a club but from a few reports I’ve read/heard their owners are difficult people.

Shame as I like York City as a club - although haven’t been to their new identikit retail park ground.
