This post is mere speculation from me but if Omar Mir does not have the money himself we have to look at the fact he is a Senior Advisor with the investment firm General Atlantic who have stakes in other sporting institutions. It may be the way he can invest.

I think the point of real weakness in the deal is possibly a couple of clauses around the commercials. They said straight up in the meeting that they would have no control of the commercial side, but that's not the case. Firstly, if they introduce commercial partners to us, that value can count towards the £87m, ie they don't have to give us the £87m if they can get someone else to. Could be linked companies to them, could be dodgy crypto, could be whoever. And then they also apparently have an absolute veto on us ending or changing key commercial partnerships. So they will be able to tie us to whatever companies they wish (gambling clause aside) indefinitely - not clear if that veto stays or goes in the event of them ceasing to provide funds.

Nick - I have also thought this. Mr Mir has clearly been working hard to establish bona fides with credible institutions over the last few years - collapsing a football club would be highly detrimental to what he seems to be trying to do.

Surrey Bob, he's from Hounslow. Might be from inherited wealth but would be a bit surprised!! I agree that stuff is simultaneously reassuring and slightly unnerving. Still minded to vote yes but would like more detail on Mir's past, wealth and how he made his money. At the meeting the other day, they said they'd seen his bank statements so presumably know he does have this wealth (or that sufficient funds come into his account from legit sources) but there is a suspicion that the money is coming through him from someone else who would be the real investor and if that's the case, I think we need to know that and who that person/those people are. Perhaps it's the King given Mir's links with him!

One final consideration, of course, is that, these days, if you were a shady character who wanted to hide your activities the very very worst thing that you would choose to do would be to buy a football club- thus raising your profile massively and getting thousands of interested supporters trying to find out more about you - it’s not the old days of Robert Maxwell any more.

I wonder if Mir is reading WUP, and calling out “They want to know if I’m married, and if I’ve got kids…”, or “Apparently they think I’m Freddie Mercury resurrected…”, and “According to someone on here, I don’t actually exist… what should I do?”

Dr Mir is clearly a bit of a mystery man and it would be nice if he turned up in person to meet us,but I would say that the level of due diligence that he will have to go through to get the investment approved by the regulator is way more thorough than any of us can do by searching online. It is an interesting point, which has been brought up a few times recently, that the football regulator is now a proper regulator, similar to that seen in other industries- it’s not the EFL, with a load of loopholes and blind eyes being turned any more. I personally am happy to trust the various lawyers and regulators to do their job properly in checking on the source of his funds and his background.

I’m starting to think that our biggest misses are Sweeney and Ogs rather than Stevens and Browne - I guess we’ll only find out when they are all back…

The absence of information about Mir’s previous work isn’t necessarily information in itself nor evidence of dodginess - there’s plenty of information about his more recent projects, much of which mean almost nothing to me (and others, I suspect…), especially those relating to AI, etc. Thanks to oxford for the detailed stuff earlier - I find it simultaneously reassuring and worrying (not sure if that’s anyone else’s experience…?). I still think it should be a Yes - we might regret it at some future point, but we might regret going bust in a year’s time even more if we don’t try to make the best of this apparent lifeline….

I agree with Spit, if (and it still is if) we get the 16 million it gives us breathing space. Any portion of the other 71 million turning up is a bonus for me.

Spit - I haven't seen anyone post a conspiracy theory. I assume anyone saying he doesn't exist is joking. But there is remarkably little known about someone who will own our club, who many of us have the right and duty to vote on. It was notable that the other SSC investors the other night seemed to be suggesting not to focus on him because he won't be operationally involved, which I thought was an extraordinary statement. He's putting up literally all the cash! He's the key person!
