Real Madrid had 3 off field red cards after losing the Cup final to Barca last night, must have kicked off big time

Not sure how we are still getting such good gates when we are not competing in games. Build up from the back, struggle to pass to a teammate and get under pressure, pass back, pass back, pass back to keeper, kick, fail to contest header, lose possession. Repeat. I enjoyed my pie, the corner flag incident, the false goal celebration and the stewards Indian rope trick yesterday . Enough to make me want to renew my season ticket? Not sure

Even York going up would be good as it’s a new ground and a nice place which you can’t say for others

I think at present the only team I would feel confident there would be a chance of scraping a 0-0 would be Walsall.

The thought of Salford marching through the play offs is not very appealing.
One positive is that League Two looks a lot more southern next year so less travelling. Cambridge, Crawley, Barnet and Bristol Rovers joining us and we are losing Morecambe, Carlisle, Donny and Port Vale.

March and April form for Grimsby is W4 D5 L4 Goals for 15 Goals against 18. Anyone’s guess what might happen up there.

Surbiton, could not argue with a single word you have written. In fact I am glad you put it all down like that. I would still put biggest disappointment being Bugiel who is of no help to Stevens, and has resorted to just fouling and diving. I would also add Newport, Walsall and SwinDon to your list of games.

I fear Jackson and his management team have lost the plot in the last month+ and have no confidence at all of us getting anything next week. One shot on target in the last two games says it all.
What a disappointing end to the season this has been. Once again the second half of the season has been atrocious, 4 seasons on the trot now. A massive issue. We have lacked any kind of attacking plan for months, lots of hoof ball and no idea what to do in the last third. Maycock looks lost. Tilley and Neufville are playing too deep. Absolutely no one is making any runs behind the defence of any kind so we are playing in front of the defence. It's embarrassing. We slow down the game whenever we can which means teams can just sit back. We rarely counter on teams and when we do, we don't know what to do. And we have no outlet if we need to get back into the game. No big man up top to hit balls at and push their defence back. Players look shot of confidence, first touches are bad, passes not going to the opposition. The list goes on. Really disappointing after a strong start to the season with the same players albeit a fit Hippolyte. Haven't got much hope for next Saturday and as some say, yes the money would be useful if we did get to the play offs but we ain't winning and we would struggle in league one. Jackson has done a decent job to make us resolute at the back but he isn't brave enough and that has cost us. Losing to Port Vale is not a problem, they are good team. But not beating Morecambe, not beating Crewe, drawing against Barrow has cost us. And it's been pretty dreadful to watch, amazing that we have been continuing to get such high attendances.

We don't have much choice but to keep Jackson but he has to have a plan B.
Silk - with regard to your idea that all of the EFL Chairman might "agree" to cut player wages - the fact that all attempts to enforce a wage cap fail because teams want to evade it (ie football clubs are not normal businesses and many/ most prioritise on-field success over profitability) is clear evidence that this would never happen (Putting aside the question of whether such collusion is even legal). Really that is the fundamental problem for us, all clubs will spend on players as much as they can afford (whether generated from their own operations or put in as cash injections from owners). We have to match that level of spending if we are to compete but we don't have an "owner" to top up the budget, therefore we are faced with a choice between spending what we can afford (and not being competitive) or spending what others do (and making an ongoing loss). We have (knowingly or not) chosen the latter path, but ultimately that can't continue for more than a couple of years unless we change our ownership (ie sell out) because the money will run out.

Kelly is still under contract next season. We need the Pigott replacement to contribute goals but to be honest we aren't even creating chances at the moment so we need some attacking midfield blokes who can do that.

Depth up top costs. We gambled with Kelly, paid a club record fee and its failed miserably. Cope and JJ built a squad that was resilient and hard to break down. Over the majority of the season this has worked and be key reason why we’ve have been as high as we have been. Coaching staff deserve credit for drilling team to be solid which was objective. Sadly to go up next level you need your strikers to all chip in. We’ve tried different formations, started them all or played the two (Omar and Stevens) who worked well. The coaching team I think have tried BUT the quality just isn’t there and it’s a shame the lack of goals is what has cost us (if we don’t go up)

Positive is MF and defence on contracts so budget should go on getting better forwards next year
Grimsby have to go for it next week; Salford and Chesterfield results yesterday seem to be making for a very nervy The Fishy forum. That will be a real test for JJ and his tactics - from the outset (we know that changing them around mid-match tends to have no influence at all).

Just read REPDs blog which is good as always but thing I don’t agree with and seen a lot of other fans say is that we play a ‘defence at all costs’ style of play and tactics…..how can that be the case when we play with at least 2 up top every game?

Reality is squad unbalanced. We’re piss poor up front and it’s cost us.
Think this season is probably our last chance for promotion for the foreseeable future. Others will be increasing budget while we will have our non-league budget whilst fans will be paying championship ticket prices ..

Hash - it would help and if that is part of the strategy and plan the boards come up with then great but we don't know that approving 50%+1 means achieving 50%+1. That still leaves a loss which our people with accountancy knowledge suggest is about 1 million a year and selling Foyo for that 1 million and playing at Old Trafford in the cup are not really a believable plan. Let us see what they come up with.

OI i guess if we pay off bond debt then the interest payments (c. £400k?) could be redirected to operational expenditure and so would have an impact on our losses

Just think, in a few days we could have Buckley replacing himself, fall out of the playoffs and, five months in, still no clear grip on the tiller from the new DTB. What a time to be alive.

Keefy - I'll give this lot a while, they do seem to at least admit the can exists which is a big step forward. However if there isn't a clear strategy and a plan to implement eliminating losses by the end of 2025 I'd be moving towards the selling out camp.

And yes I know cutting the budget unilaterally will be bad for us but cannot all EFL chairman get together and admit they are over-paying players and agents. Is the small chance of being the next Wrexham too much of a temptation to run their businesses prudently?

The only way to cut losses is to cut the player budget. We, and every L2 club are overpaying their players for what they commercially bring to the club. This is repeated through all football.

It is funny that NFL owners make a profit as they keep wages in relevance to the earnings but football seem to lemming-like all run their clubs at a great loss over paying both players and agents.
