It’s pretty hard to see neither Salford nor Chesterfield winning next week (and probably both will), so really it’s going to come down to us needing a draw vs Grimsby to make the playoffs

We've been crap since early February. We got away with it a few times. Then we didn't at Colchester. Then we started losing to shit teams. Then we started conceding late goals to lose points. Now we are cannon fodder and are just losing. We didn't lay a glove on Port Vale today. They probably couldn't believe their luck. 2-0 flattered us. They were far superior. Darren Moore is one of the few 4th Division managers not to rant at officials. It was refreshing to see.

Albeit entirely different circumstances, this feels like how the 1999/2000 season fizzled out, when the team ran out of ideas, belief, confidence, went into freefall and seemingly gave up. To fall out of the play offs on the last game of the season, having been there most of the season, will be a footballing tragedy but I can see it happening. At least it will spare us the time, expense and disappointment of losing in the play off semi-finals, although to watch opposition fans celebrating at our expense two weeks in a row at Grimsby will be galling.

Today was the weirdest last home game of the season I can remember. No lap of honour for obvious reasons. No saying goodbye. Nothing. Just quietly walking out while the opposition celebrated promotion.
Have to admit, us finishing outside the playoffs would serve us right, for the way we've approached the last month.
