Collins - was literally about to post the same thing

Interesting, perhaps.
Why strange, Collins? Just added a few more pounds to the total. Always good to ask existing investors to add more money.

There's two seperate financial issues here; 1) cost of West stand being one of the key drivers to debt accumulation and 2) major shift in owners' funding of clubs since we joined the EFL. It's 2) which will be the most challenging and, will eventually, drive us into private ownership

These are the five averages excluding this season: 2024/25 – 7,924 - 2023/24 – 7,893 - 2022/23 – 7,604 - 2021/22 – 7,704

2021/22 had some restrictions. So did better than I realised.
Just had a strange email from Republic Support Europe (formerly Seedrs) inviting me to invest in AFC Wimbledon, who are "raising another round of funding". This "pre-emption campaign" is open until 1st April. Anyone else had this nonsense? I should have unsubscribed before.

Agree about the poor decision making regarding the west stand. I don’t think it’s the only thing that’s costing us though.

We've had nearly 5 seasons with big crowds in the ground, not sure another 2 years will make much difference .

My opinion building that vast west stand at the cost with so few seats will end up doing for fans owned!
Agreed Mav but do you think the time will be used for that or grandstanding about the wonders of being fan owned? And for 6MDM and others, I remembered this appropriate song

That always felt like the case and is expressed in different ways. Kicking the can down the road and allowing time for planning are both the same thing. Time will tell which words are most apt.

As I suggested yesterday - a wise move now would be to employ someone to source and negotiate the 50+1 deal or deals properly and rigorously. This shouldn’t be left in the hands of incapable volunteers. It’s too much responsibility to put onto those who have shown they’re not worthy of it.
Over the past year, and having been close to the numbers for a while when I was on the board, I've come to the conclusion that 50.01 is a necessary first step but not a long term fix. I'm afraid we are no longer financially viable in the longer term. We can't defy logic and gravity and stay competitive indefinitely in a football world that is more and more about big money. Without outside investment my concern is the real risk of non-league football and administration within (at most) 3 - 4 years. We would then have no choice about what happens to us. At least this gives us time to plan properly for the longer term future looking up rather than down.

StD - for a very long time now, one can break down our support thus : 80% aren't that bothered with the "political" side of things, 15% are bothered, and 5% are very very bothered by it.

I'm sure most fans would go with what the club want. But looking at how many were at the meeting,it's only the hard-core that really care about such matters..others go with the flow,

Morning all. Maybe the turnout was high amongst the otherwise unengaged simply because it was a thing that could legitimately seriously affect the football club, and one that the club decided not to sweep under the carpet...
25th Mar 2026 08:48:03 [45.lo.gg.ed]
Like the Two Ticks campaign, people turn out when it's the experience on a matchday that is at stake.
I’ll admit I got it wrong - I didn’t expect the turnout to reach the required threshold.
It does make you wonder whether more season ticket holders with gifted memberships are actually more engaged than assumed. If so, the DTB may have played a blinder.
25th Mar 2026 08:03:20 [2.lo.gg.ed]
While hitting the turnout threshold might have been easier before, it may not have secured enough “yes” votes imo.

I can't envisage any scenario in which an investor would instigate a hostile takeover. They would just be throwing good money away (paying a premium to existing shareholders) when they could just wait and get it for very little during administration, which would happen with or without 50.1% in place. The main risk is them turning the tap off funding ongoing losses (should that even exists as a concept) unless they get their way or just lose interest.
25th Mar 2026 00:02:14 [109.lo.gg.ed]
I personally think 50.1% is just kicking the can down the road as I have said many times but I am so bored of this now I'll just see what plays out. I was more surprised the constitution update had the most votes in favour but, again, whilst I didn't vote in favour of this particular resolution, I don't care enough to lose any sleep over it passing.
I'll be honest, I'm not in favour of 50+1 because it doesn't protect us against a hostile takeover. They can give us all the assurances but 75% protects us 50+ one doesn't.

The bottom line is that no club around us in the the league is financially viable without a few million coming from outside the business. This is due to the ratio of players wages to turnover. We are no different. The Dons Trust are stuck between a rock and a hard place on this.
24th Mar 2026 22:31:35 [82.lo.gg.ed]
What are the solutions? Become the only club I know of to break even without outside investment? Sell the club and hope the owner is nice and invests enough to keep the club progressing in the way the fans demand? A Barcelona style president? Or something else?
Trigger how very apt

Dawn of la luz of forever
Voted for because of one simple thing. It’s clear the people running the trust don’t know what to do now to make the club financially viable. And the DTB has become something that cannot be controlled by the people it reports to. It’s been a sort of elected dictatorship for some time now. In cases unelected plain and simple. In that situation you might as well sell it down anyway. The state we’ve reached where good people just get ground down on there. To me it no longer means the difference between us controlling the club or someone else. It’s someone else controlling the club the way they want and using the excessive power of the board to get their own way. I don’t see anything different to an outside owner anymore. So selling down this much is no different other than it potentially realises more funding.
24th Mar 2026 21:37:39 [185.lo.gg.ed]
It doesn’t solve the financial problems but makes it less painful for a while.
I think you meant that the people that you talk to don’t like how some people express their dissatisfaction and tried to play that off as being the vast majority of the club.
24th Mar 2026 21:27:20 [195.lo.gg.ed]
I’m happy that financial failure is postponed for a while and I sincerely hope that it never happens. The 50+1 vote should open doors for us. Time will tell how it all plans out. I am certainly not heading into this hoping for a “told you so” moment - I really hope a strong and proper solution is worked out. But I don’t have faith or trust in those in charge of delivering that. Based on direct personal experience over multiple years. I want AFC Wimbledon to be as successful as we can be, forever
