The Southern League Dons celebrate after going 3-1 up against Leatherhead in a round FA Cup tie at Fetcham Grove. With number 10 on his back, who scored the decisive the goal that secured a tie against topflight Middlesbrough? Yesterday's answer - Ian Cooke.

Silk - a few related stats. We've got 5th highest xG against, 3rd highest % of shots faced in the box, and Bishop has the lowest save % in the league. Bit of a mixed bag defensively. Sone positives yesterday with their 1st minute chance their only shot in the box and Bishop making a good save. I do think we've looked better defensively in recent games going back to more of a 352 but always tricky to balance that with (lack of) attacking threat.

Just as there should be in derby matches. I cannot remember there being one when we play the filth
The scoreboard at the Stadium of Light has the Sunderland crest on one side and the word VISITORS on the other side of the score. Are the FA going to fine Sunderland and make the 2 clubs go into mediation to improve relations between them?

Silk I think the thing that we’re limiting teams to chances where they really should be ashamed if they don’t score is both good and bad. It’s possibly a good thing that the goals were conceding are only because they’re harder not to score. But it could also be we’re conceding more of those kind of chances as well. I think the latter is a part of it that we need to stop.

Our defence looks OK for a lower table league one side. Our attack seems to still be taking time to work out and also another gamble that might not pay off. (Orsi - although playing him and Stevens was never great. Either/or off Bugiel probably works better).
Oh yeah Mansfield have always been that kind of team I think Clough has adopted their style rather than trying to implement his own.

My point was more that other refs may have allowed the goal to stand - I think we got a little lucky there.
Not too sympathetic to Mansfield they set out to cheat from minute one. Unfortunately we sunk to their level.

Clough is a horrible manager. Even allowing for our past.
Just checked a curious stat - we have the 3rd fewest shots on target against us, the lowest shots to shots on target ratio but the highest goals to shots on target ratio. Essentially we are good at preventing shots on target but let in the most that are on target proportionally.

I think Bush Womble covered this but our defence is still preventing chances but we seem to be conceding a high number of ones we do.
Mark Leadon - Paper 7a [Link] (you have to specifically request a copy of the policy that is being voted on - which is disgraceful behaviour from the board) and Paper 7b [Link] (a clumsily written document which leaves almost everything open to interpretation - you may be banned from being a DT member if someone doesn’t like something someone has claimed you have said.)

As we all know since Proxygate voting at DT meetings is now futile anyway.
Yeah I know Silk and I can see why my post might have suggested a link but I didn’t see much in terms of fouls against our defenders.

Trigger - the goal was not disallowed because of the challenge of Bishop but the fouling of our defenders by their forwards

I don’t disagree Lurks - but we are a league above now with predominantly the same defence. The last two games have shown that we can still be pretty mean at the back but that one moment can leave us without points regardless.

The disallowed goal yesterday was a real let off when you watch it back. Bishop lets the ball slip through his forearms and I’m not sure there was much there for the ref to blow - very pleased he disagreed with me.
We’ve been struggling at the back for a while. Our success in getting promoted and sitting in promotion places for most of this season has been based on being one of the lowest conceding teams in all leagues. Getting back to that is pretty important. It will be the difference between comfortably safe and struggling. More than goal scoring.
